former selves

"Former Selves are bioluminescent entities. They’re glowing forever in your memory and shape your state of mind. Embodied cognition. Don’t be afraid.Vocals on “Kindred Spirits” and “Calico Sunset” by Lynn Fister. Art & J-Card Design by Lynn Fister." sicsic tapes

"The album is about how a beautiful experience affected my life. I experienced something more beautiful than I could have previously imagined and it altered my understanding and perception of beauty. This new beautiful experience became the standard against which I compare/judge all other things to be beautiful. But the beauty has been a blessing and a curse. On one hand, the experience on its own was beautiful and I find happiness when I reflect on it. But on the other hand, there's sadness when I realize that I may never experience anything more beautiful, and when I no longer find beauty in the things I used to.

I used "Calico Sunset" as a symbol for life-changing beauty. Calico sunsets are one of a kind and made up of different color combinations: red, blue, pink, purple, and orange. The colors reflect off the water, creating a mirrored image of the sky. It's gorgeous! And in the moment, I know I'll never see another exactly like it, so I try not to blink and miss a detail. When it's over I can either reflect on what I just saw, perhaps so long that I miss the next sunset, or I can wait for the next one.

The sun sets every day, so I tell myself it's best to give each day the same (or more) appreciation and attention than the previous one, and it's better to not speculate about tomorrow. In doing so, I won't miss the calico sunsets that are happening all around me; they're everywhere. But this is all, of course, easier said than done." paul skomsvold

hi francky, why what the fuck? it is a nice blend. i always thought Félicia and Lynn paintings are somehow a bit similar... at least to me, but clearly these two cover arts are different.

There are different types of spirit possession depending on the particular culture, there are four types of possession among the Kalabari of West Africa and three among the Tonga of central Africa. In many groups possession is a way of the individual gaining social status if only while in the throes of possession. Some of the spirits entering the Sakalava of northwest Madagascar are deceased royalty (called tromba), those possessed by tromba attain social status within their group.

ana : the difference is that atkinson is doing it for 10 years and fister seems to do such things for 10 weeks...

entonces no soy la única :)

francky, i always thought that the subtle line between inspiration and copy is very very thin. by the way, the first time i saw Calico Sunset cover i immediately thought about Monet's paintings. no way i think it is a copy neither him would think that... and neither i think the circular shape necessary belongs to modern painters or to old book designs or anyone in particular. a bit similar? maybe yes..but i really think that are basically different. (anyway i don't understand what you mean refering to years. i don't know how many years Lynn has been painting but in this case it doesn't have to be decisive. it's a little unfair)
